Non-canon/canon

From what I've understood from discussion in meetings, the policy on TG is that material published posthumously by Tolkien is considered "canon" unless it directly contradicts concepts in the works published during his lifetime. Therefore I removed Template:Noncanon from this article (disclaimer: I haven't investigated the concept behind this article, but from what I can tell from the article itself, this should not be "non-canon").--Morgan 01:03, 9 July 2011 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Actually, I agree with you and only put in the non-canon box to be cautious and to see what others would say. Rían, daughter of Steward Barahir, is mentioned in the sentence after Dior in the list of Ruling Stewards in The People of Middle-earth on page 204 (which I will put into the reference). I could not find any other place where it was contradicted, so it would only be non-canonical if such were defined as all items not found in books published by J.R.R. Tolkien in his lifetime. I prefer the TG policy you mentioned. -- Gamling 18:23, 9 July 2011 (UTC)Reply[reply]
