Sir Gawain and the Green Knight is a 1975 translation of the 14th century manuscript for which Tolkien made a scholarly edition with E.V. Gordon in 1925.

Though the translation was not published until 1975, the manuscript was adapted into a BBC radio play aired in December 1953, with a rerun in September 1954.

Pearl is a late 14th century narrative poem, considered to be written by the author of Sir Gawain. This poet is usually known as either the "Pearl poet" or the "Gawain poet". In 1953, E.V. Gordon published his edition of this poem.
