- 1944 - J.R.R. Tolkien writes Letter 65.
- 1944 - While writing on The Lord of the Rings, J.R.R. Tolkien sees a new character arrive on the scene. He later comments: "(I am sure I did not invent him, I did not even want him, though I like him, but there he came walking into the woods of Ithilien): Faramir, brother of Boromir".
- 1958 - J.R.R. Tolkien writes Letter 209.
- 1981 - Actor Trystan Gravelle is born.
- 2003 - Artist Ben Lee dies.
- 2012 - JRR Tolkien: The True Lord of the Rings, a graphic novel, is published.
- 2017 - Beren and Lúthien is published in the UK and Europe.
