Rían was the daughter of Belegund of the House of Bëor.

Rían was born around F.A. 450. She was only a young child during the Dagor Bragollach in 455, when Belegund became a companion of Barahir. She was led to safety with the other women and children by Emeldir. Belegund died in F.A. 461.

Around F.A. 470, when Rían was 20, she wedded Huor of the House of Marach, whose brother Húrin was married to Rían's cousin Morwen.

A year later, Huor was slain in the Nírnaeth Arnoediad. Soon after that, Rían gave birth to a son, Tuor.

Rían died of grief around F.A. 473. She laid herself upon Haudh-en-Nirnaeth. She was only 23.
