On 19 December 1937, J.R.R. Tolkien wrote a letter to Charles Furth.[1]
- Subject: Tolkien replies to a letter from Furth from 17 December, regarding the reprint of The Hobbit.
- Publication: The largest part of the letter appeared as Letter 20 in The Letters of J.R.R. Tolkien. An additional paragraph and a reproduction of the second page was included in The Hobbit 50th Anniversary.[2]
