From Abjection to Alchemy: Tolkien's Middle-earth Legendarium is the title of Sara Brown's PhD thesis, presented at the University of Salford.[1]
For the work on her thesis, Brown was permitted access to J.R.R. Tolkien's private papers held at the Bodleian Library: "There she was able to study transcripts of lectures and drafts of some of Tolkien's essays and literary works, including a small note in the author's handwriting ... concerning the character of Gandalf".[2]
