|Birth||S.R. 1160 |
Hamfast of Gamwich was a Hobbit of the Shire.
Hamfast lived in Gamwich. He was the father of Wiseman, who moved to Tighfield, and as such, he was the progenitor of the Gamwich (later Gamgee) family.
The name Hamfast comes from Old English hámfæst, meaning "stay-at-home". It was a translation of Westron Ranugad.
