On 23 December 1934, J.R.R. Tolkien wrote a letter to G.H. Cowling.[1]

  • Subject: Tolkien explains his procrastination and horror of writing letters. He thanks Cowling for a copy of Chaucer and wishes him a Happy Christmas.[1] The letter is noteworthy for mentioning the name Bingo in the postscript.[2]
