Yes, its definitely a possibility because of the impact that Morris Motors had upon Oxford. And although the company significantly boosted employment, stimulated economic growth, and contributed to the city’s urban expansion, Tolkien definitely still saw its negative impact primarily, with the loss of a significant amount of its quietude and natural beauty being too high a cost for the industrialisation process.

On the other hand, it could have just been a typo.
