Eldacar is born in T.A. 1255 and his mother Vidumavi died in T.A. 1344...which would make her well over 100 years at the time of her death...not that it is impossible of course, but not very likely...and she wasn't one of the Dúnedain...???

I think this article is worthy of inclusion as an external link. I think it's fairly substantial and contains a great deal of contextualizing information which is out of scope for the TG article, but could be useful to many readers. --Pachyderminator 04:05, 31 January 2025 (UTC)Reply[reply]

The link to this article is unnecessary, is not worthy of an inclusion on Tolkien Gateway and should be deleted. The information in the article is already includced on the Vidumavi page and on pages that the Vidumavi page directly or indirectly links to. The Vidumavi page already says that the was the daughter of Vidugavia and the Vidugavia page already has a link to the Northmen. Readers of Tolkien Gateway can read the information on the Northmen page and do not need the Who were the Northmen? section of this article. The Vidumavi page already contains information about her unknown year of birth, the year of birth of her son Eldacar and that the must have been born before the year of birth of her son. The Vidumavi page already has a link to the Minalcar page. Readers of Tolkien Gateway can read about the war against the Easterlings on the Minalcar page. Readers of Tolkien Gateway do not need the Vidumavi's Early Life section of this article. The information in the A Fateful Marriage and A "Lesser and Alien" Crown Princess sections can already be read on the Vidumavi page. The information in the Vidumavi's Legacy sections can be read on the Valacar and Eldacar pages and the pages about their successors as kings. --Akhôrahil (talk) 18:54, 23 February 2025 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  1. Is there a rule that forbids having links to articles with information already included on Tolkien Gateway? Even if the article in question was just a well-written retelling of already known facts, it still would be worthy of an inclusion on Tolkien Gateway, since some readers could like reading different retellings of already known facts.
  2. What about the section "Vidumavi the Person"? It contains some interesting speculations about Vidumavi's personality, which aren't (and probably shouldn't) be included in the article as too speculative, but could be interesting to some readers.
  3. What about the section "Vidumavi’s Legacy in the Meta Narrative"? I don't think discussions about narrative and philosophical significance of characters should be a part of Tolkien Gateway articles, but such discussions could be interesting to some readers as well.

Whether there is a rule or not is irrelevant. The article is repetitive and unnecessary. The special interests of some readers are not sufficient to include articles with mostly repetitive information and some information that may only interest very few readers. Theoretically many things about many characters or places could be interesting to some readers. If special interests dictate links on Tolkien Gateway, Tolkien Gateway will degenerate into a link farm that caters to special interests where everybody links to his favourite articles. --Akhôrahil (talk) 20:20, 23 February 2025 (UTC)Reply[reply]
I think it is just your opinion and you haven't provide any new arguments. So either a vote or Hyarion's decision about this disagreement is necessary. Angon (talk) 08:35, 24 February 2025 (UTC)Reply[reply]
It is primarily your special interest opinion and that of pachyderminator. Tolkien Gateway is a community, it is not a dicatorship where Hyarion decides as a dictator. Simply because many editors and readers do not provide their opinion or that a vote does not take a sufficiently long time for editors and readers to become aware of the issue and to vote, does not mean that you and pachyderminator are the majority of Tolkien Gateway editors. --Akhôrahil (talk) 13:11, 24 February 2025 (UTC)Reply[reply]
