Why does Template:Elves infobox not suffice? I agree that relevant characters shouldn't be classified as Noldor - as it is anachronistic - but the problem is from the reader's point of view we're using what is an odd term "Gnome" without explanation. I would personally have preferred a discussion on this before implementation, particularly as I'm the person who has worked so hard on the templates for infoboxes. --Mith (Talk/Contribs/Edits) 08:50, 17 June 2020 (UTC)
- I don't see how can be a problem having a Gnome infobox when the article already speaks of the character as a Gnome. If the name seems odd, the reader only has to click on the links wintin the article or of the own infobox to find out. Sorry for implementing it so quickly, I don't pretend to debunk your work at all, this is a simple addition to fix the anachronistic inboxes (and we have not even talk of the Categories yet). The Elves infobox is useful for Elves of unknown race, but it is also useful to have a specific template for characters of known races. --LorenzoCB 09:18, 17 June 2020 (UTC)
- I understand that, but this is the first template for an abandoned concept so this is completely different from other template and infoboxes we have, and opens up a much much bigger conversation to be honest. - One advantage for the Elves infobox is that we can lump all the old Elf races in one such as the Solosimpi, Ilkorins, Lindar etc. I think if the Gnome infobox was to stay then there would be a case to create those for the other elf races like the ones mentioned. How about just adding a new line at the elves infobox to say what specific elf tribe they belong to? Gaetano 23:19, 20 June 2020 (UTC)
- That sounds like a good idea. But I must say that we have many articles for Gnomes (I only applied the template to some of them), while there are a few or none characters of other old races. I agree with Mith that TG should define the policy on the early Legendarium articles. --LorenzoCB 09:25, 21 June 2020 (UTC)
- It sounds like a good idea, and if there are enough articles for the other races, we might need a template for the Ilkorindi and perhaps even the Solosimpi (although I wonder what we should do with the Teleri/Vanyar). Sage 10:03, 21 June 2020 (UTC)
- I have amended the Elves infobox (it needed updating anyway) and there is now a {{{people}}} field which will change the classification at the top; if it's left blank it will just say "Elf". We've had problems in the past with too many specific infoboxes (it opens up for a lot of arguments about which ones is the correct one), so I would be very keen to avoid more specific infoboxes, and I think the Elves infobox can work and it can cover Solosimpi, Gnomes etc. I hope this is a fair compromise?
