The Reeve's Tale: Version Prepared for Recitation at the 'Summer Diversions' is a version by J.R.R. Tolkien of one of the Canterbury Tales by Geoffrey Chaucer, first published in 1939, printed privately.
It contains a two-page introduction, and a slightly reworked text of The Reeve's Tale by Chaucer. The changes to the text seem to have been made for length and to cut out some of the bawdier elements that may have offended at a public performance.[1]
The text was reprinted in 2008 in Tolkien Studies: Volume 5. A study and discussion of this text was made in the 2019 book Tolkien's Lost Chaucer.
