(Redirected from Tower of the Stone)

The Dome of Stars was a great domed hall in the city Osgiliath,[1] the capital of Gondor, where the chief palantír, the Master Stone of Osgiliath was kept.[2]
The Tower of the Dome of Osgiliath was destroyed during the civil war of the Kin-strife in the siege and Burning of Osgiliath and the palantír was lost in the river Anduin[3] in T.A. 1437.[4][5]
Portrayal in adaptations
2015: The Lord of the Rings Online:
- The Dome of Stars stands in the northern section of the city. After Sauron's attack on Osgiliath in T.A. 3018, his forces threw down the bridge leading to the Dome of Stars from the west, transforming it into their stronghold. Later during the War of the Ring, the Dome serves as perch for one of the Nazgûl whom the players confront in the palantír chamber during a group instance. After the Morgul-host moves over to the Pelennor Fields, some of the Rangers of Ithilien who remained in hiding inside the city's culverts and became cut off from the rest of Gondor's forces, sneak into the Dome of Stars and observe the battle of the Pelennor Fields from its top.
