Carnil

Carnil was a bright red star^[1] created by Varda in preparation for the coming of the Elves.^[2] Actually, this "star" is the planet Mars.^[3]

Etymology

Carnil is probably Quenya for "Red Star", by Paul Strack explains, being a compound of carnë ("red") + el ("star").^[4]
