- 1939 - Gordon Reid, who would provide the voices of several characters in the 1981 radio series of The Lord of the Rings, is born.
- 1970 – The very first Mythcon is held at Harvey Mudd College.
- 1971 - Mythcon II.
- 1973 - A requiem Mass for J.R.R. Tolkien is held in the Church of St Anthony of Padua in Headington, Oxford. Father Robert Murray assists.
- 1975 - Oxonmoot 1975.
- 1992 - The first part of the 1992 radio series of The Adventures of Tom Bombadil is aired on BBC Radio 5.
