Summary

Allen & Unwin received a question from a cat breeder who wanted to name her Siamese cats after characters in The Lord of the Rings. Tolkien was never a cat person, and considered Siamese cats to belong to the fauna of Mordor.

Note

The letter was wrongly dated 14 October in The Letters of J.R.R. Tolkien.[1]
