| Months in the Shire Calendar |
|---|
Blotmath (pronounced Blodmath or Blommath) was the eleventh month of the Shire Calendar, approximately corresponding to modern 22 October through 20 November. It was called Blooting in Bree.
Occurring after the harvest, Blotmath was the first month of the Hobbit year in older times. However after the Hobbits adopted the King's Reckoning, Blotmath became the eleventh month. [1]
Etymology
The name represents a modernisation of the Old English name for November, blotmonaþ, meaning "month of sacrifice".[2]
