Cypresses

Cypresses were a type of tree that grew in the northern marches of Ithilien.[1]

During Berúthiel's time as the wife of King Tarannon of Gondor, she decorated the gardens of the King's House in Osgiliath "with tormented sculptures beneath cypresses and yews".[2]

A type of cypress, Black Cypress, is described as the largest evergreen growing in southeastern Middle-earth, growing up to 200 ft. Its trunk was black and the scale-like leaves were dark green. Its hard to work wood was used for shipbuilding.[3]
