Yews were a tree whose wood was used for bows. Bard had a bow of such wood[1], and so did the Woodmen[2], and the Orcs of Isengard.[3]
During Berúthiel's time as the wife of King Tarannon of Gondor, she decorated the gardens of the King's House in Osgiliath "with tormented sculptures beneath cypresses and yews".[4]
