Elfstan Fairbairn was the son of Fastred of Greenholm and Samwise Gamgee's eldest daughter Elanor, born in the year Fo.A. 33 (1454 by the Shire-reckoning).[1] Obviously he was also a Warden of Westmarch.[2]

Etymology[edit]

His name means "Elfstone", and probably he was named so in honour of King Elessar.[2]
