Forums:First Age acronym clairty

From Tolkien Gateway

Over the last year or more various discussions have been held in the chat regarding how we represent the years of the First Age across the wiki.

At the moment we represent them as "F.A. 1" (Template:FA) but this perpetuates the common misconception that the First Age started in F.A. 1, when it instead started in Y.T. 1050 (this is properly explained in a section within the "First Age" article). Many of us would like to change the current format to be better represent which of the First Age years are Years of the Trees and which are Years of the Sun.

Initial proposals have suggested two primary options;

We are looking for feedback on the above options but we are also open to new suggestions. How can we best represent the timeline of the First Age clearly? Unsigned comment by JR Snow (talk • contribs).

Just to complicate things, I'd rather the focus was on the Years of the Trees or the Years of the Sun with the superscript being the First Age: Y.T. 1050 (F.A.) and Y.S. 1 (F.A.). To me, it looks strange seeing a F.A. number being higher than another but taking place earlier in the timeline. I think Trees or Sun at the forefront avoids the confusion but I wouldn't be surprised if my suggestion may just end up confusing some others! However, there'd maybe also need to be a rewrite/rethinking of the timeline on here to go along with whatever change is decided since First Age 1 is written as the first year of the sun which is exactly what we are saying it isn't.
