On 9 December 1965, J.R.R. Tolkien wrote a letter to Christine Jones, a reader in New Jersey.[note 1][1][2]

Excerpt

If I answered all the letters I receive as they deserved, I should write nothing else.

Notes

  1. The name of the letter receiver is not given in The J.R.R. Tolkien Companion and Guide: Chronology. However, the letter is said to be kept at the Marquette University Library: in their records, the receiver is identified as "Christine Jones".
