Cleanup complete?

This one had a few missing links and missing commas, but other than that it looked okay to me. MOONBOLT (talk) 03:03, 23 October 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Agreed, I've removed it. Thanks! Hyarion (talk) 03:43, 23 October 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]
I disagree. I do not understand why it was thought that the article just had a few missing links and commas and looked OK and It do not understand why this was agreed upon and why the cleanup template was removed.
The Éothéod article was not cleaned up prior to the edits and was not cleaned up after the edits. The last paragraph of the History section did not have and still does not have a reference. The last sentence of the first paragraph, the second paragraph and the third paragraph of the Migration subsection do not have references. The first and the second paragraph of the The Rohirrim subsection do not have references. The first refrence makes it difficult for readers to find the source, because it only whoses the whole chapter as a reference without indicating the subsections of the chapter where the information is coming from. References 2 to 4, which use The Lord of the Rings as a source do not have page numbers for the 50th anniversary edition of LOTR and reference 2 is not detailed enough to make it easy for the reader to find the source without a page number of is he or she has an edition of LOTR with different page numbers.
The edit inserted an unnecessary "the" before "Steward of Gondor" and an unnecessary "," after "Steward of Gondor", causing the following sentence to look gramatically weird "During the rule of the ruling the Steward of Gondor, Cirion, had always in his mind". Ciron was one of the "ruling Stewards" of Gondor as opposed to the role of the Stewards when there were still Kings of Gondor. This is why Appendix A disginguishes between (normal) Stewards and Ruling Stewards. This is why the sentence was intentionally phrased to read "During the rule of the ruling Steward of Gondor Cirion" to point out that Cirion was a ruling Steward of Gondor and that the action happened during his rule. The sentence was not correct, because it was not gramatically correct and from the phrasing of the sentence it is not clear if Cirion or somebody else had "the menace from the North" "always on his mind". The sentence could be rephrase to read "After Cirion succeeded his father Boromir as the Ruling Steward of Gondor, he always thought about the threat of invasion from the North." with appropriate links and references.
In addition, the edit introduced unnecessary content. In the edit T.A. was manually inserted thrice before templates for years in which the "|n" parameter had been used before the edit, which causes the "T.A." not to be displayed before the year. The purpose of using the "|n" parameter is to not have "T.A." displayed if "T.A." has already been used before that on the page so that it becomes obvious from the previous content of the page that the following years are also years of the Third Age. One of the advantages of using the "Edit source" function is that the use of the "|n" parameter in the year template can be seen.
In addition, the last edit damaged the infobox, because it deleted one of the opening brackets of the infobox when it deleted the cleanup template. Such accidental deleting can happen, but it can be avoided by using the "Show preview" button and by checking the preview of the page if everything looks ok and by pressing the "Save changes" button if everything looks ok or correcting the edit if it does not look OK.
I have already fixed the infobox and I will correct the remaining problems on the page. --Akhôrahil (talk) 08:41, 23 October 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Okay, that's why I asked for a second set of eyes. MOONBOLT (talk) 09:40, 23 October 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]
