Tolkien Gateway:Projects
This is a list of projects currently being developed by Tolkien Gateway.
Please note: as per Tolkien Gateway's twelfth meeting, inactive supervisors will be replaced if necessary.
Adaptations[edit]
- Supervisor: Ederchil
The goal of the project is to create an article for every noteworthy adaptation of Tolkien's works.
- Scene by scene summary of The Lord of the Rings.
- Create an article which details locations in New Zealand from The Lord of the Rings (film series).

Books[edit]
- Supervisor: Morgan
The goal of the project is to create an article for every single book published or unpublished which relates to J.R.R. Tolkien and his works. Concentration is also on editions, impressions, book covers, as well as the authors.
- Authors: Try and make a list of published work - books, articles - on every author. Try library catalogues, LexisNexis, Google, etc.
- Authors: Include profession (University), motives, image (if available), and other infobox information.
- Books: Change all publishing dates to the first edition dates.
- Books: Write an introduction phrase on all articles.
- Books: Include information on all editions.
- Books: Make a new infobox.
- Books by Tolkien: Include some sort of "Explanation of the Title" section.
- Chapters: chapter synopsis for all of Tolkien's major works.
- Publishers: Consider which publishers need to have articles, and which don't. Minimum of three books?

The goal of the project is to create an article for every single character mentioned in J.R.R. Tolkien's works.

Dates[edit]

The aim of the Dates is to include all the relevant information on calendars, years and day within the legendarium. This includes:
- To create a page for every single year of every single age for which we have historical information;
- To bring the existing pages up to standard - especially extending the information on existing calendars;
- To make sure that, where known, all characters, events and locations have relevant dates included;
- Within Hobbits and The Shire, making sure that Shire-reckoning is correctly converted to T.A./Fo.A.;
- Finishing the Timeline and creating other timelines;
- Converting dates in the Gregorian calendar to the various Middle-earth calendars correctly.
Games[edit]

The goal of this project is to create an article for every single board game, video game, etc. ever created along with images, reviews, pricing, and any other information relating to the game.
Images[edit]
- Supervisor: KingAragorn
The goal of the project is to gain permission and upload every piece of Tolkien imagery ever created. From the films to games to 3D illustrations if it is related to Tolkien, it belongs here. Specific aims include:
- Have the largest collection of Tolkien inspired artwork on the world wide web.
- Wherever possible, upload at least one image per article.
- Upload more, higher quality, pictures from The Lord of the Rings (film series) and The Hobbit (film series).
Obtain the permission of Ted Nasmith, Alan Lee, and John Howe to host their artwork on Tolkien Gatgeway.Upload all of Ted Nasmith's artwork.- Upload all of Alan Lee's artwork.
Upload all of John Howe's artwork.
- Obtain the permission of artists, such as those on DeviantART, to host their work on Tolkien Gateway.
- Upload all images of all cards from The Lord of the Rings Trading Card Game, including descriptions from LOTR TCG Database.
Locations[edit]
- Supervisor: KingAragorn
The goal of the project is to create an article for every single location mentioned in J.R.R. Tolkien's works. Further aims:
- To expand the Location Portal to allow users to browse the locations of Arda using maps.
- To fix Google Maps for Arda, or to develop a new extension which allows for the addition of different maps using different layers.
- Create an article which details Tolkien-related locations around Oxford and nearby areas.
- Wherever possible, to include images and maps on all location articles.
- To eradicate all red links from Index:Locations.
- To ensure that all location articles are fully referenced.
Music[edit]

The goal of the project is to create an article for every song and every band/singer who has sung about something inspired by J.R.R. Tolkien and his works. Concentration will be on lyrics, and various other aspects of the information and how it relates to Tolkien.
