Aïlior were probably the fays of lakes and pools, according to the early version of the legendarium associated with The Book of Lost Tales.[1]
Etymology
The name Aïlior is in Qenya, probably being related to the word ailin ("lake").[1]
In the Gnomish Lexicon, there also appear the words ailo ("a lake, pool") and its Gnomish cognate ail.[2]
