Ashes were tall, straight, grey trees common in northern lands, and found throughout Middle-earth. The spears of the Rohirrim were made from their wood,[1] as was Gandalf's staff.

- Wood of the regular ash tree can be foraged by journeyman foresters in Ered Luin, Bree-land, the Barrow-downs, and the North Downs.[2] Wood of the black ash tree can be foraged by master foresters in the Misty Mountains, Angmar, and Eregion.[3] Wood of the wind-swept black ash tree can be foraged by Gundabad foresters in the Ettenmoors, Gundabad, and King's Gondor.[4] Wood of the wind-swept black ash tree can be foraged by Umbar foresters in the Ettenmoors, King's Gondor, and Outer Gondor.[5]
