The only road of old to Moria from the west had lain along the course of a stream, the Sirannon, that ran out from the feet of the cliffs near where the doors had stood.
The Elven-way was the highroad[1] that ran from Ost-in-Edhil[1] in the Elven realm of Eregion,[2] along the course of the Sirannon stream[3] to the eastern end of Eregion, which was marked[2] by two tall Holly trees that stood before the Doors of Durin of the underground dwarven realm of Moria[4]. In the year T.A. 3019 of the late Third Age, the Fellowship of the Ring used the Elven-way on their approach to the Doors of Durin.[5]
