Not another constellation
The 50th Anniversary Edition's Index of TLOTR says this is the Plough. This article should be merged or rewritten. Quentandil (talk) 12:13, 2 May 2025 (UTC)
- I agree, perhaps it could be merged with Valacirca.Dour1234 (talk) 00:20, 3 May 2025 (UTC)
- The 50th anniversary Edition's Index of LOTR has an entry Durin I with a subentry "emblem of [seven stars above a crown and anvil, had eight rays, represented the Plough] 304, 847;". According to the introduction to the Index by Hammond & Scull information that is in brackets is from J.R.R. Tolkien's index. This entry is not for the constellation it is for the emblen of Durin that can be seen on the illustration of the west-door of Moria. The entry Durin's Crown merely lists the page numbers 316, 334. The term "Durin's Crown" is not used in the narrative of LOTR. Gimli says that the "Crown of Durin" lies in Kheled-zâram (i.e. in lake Mirrormere) in the chapter Lothlórien. We can only speculate that the stars that were seen by Durin I in lake Mirrormere were the inspiration for the stars on the "emblems of Durin" on the west-door in the chapter A Journey in the Dark. The information on the Durin's Crown page and Valacirca page is quite different- It does not make much sense to merge thos two pages in my opinion. --Akhôrahil (talk) 11:57, 4 May 2025 (UTC)
