unque is a noun meaning "a hollow" in Quenya.[1]

Unque is also the name in Quenya of the sixteenth letter of the Tengwar alphabet.[1] It is the fourth letter of the fourth grade or Tyellë, which contains "voiced spirants" and it is the fourth letter in the fourth series of consonants.[2] In the standard spelling of Quenya this letter represents NKW (or transcribed in English as NQU)[1] while in Sindarin this letter represents GHW. In Westron the fourth series is used for the k-series, the Calmatéma, and this letter represents GH.[2] The Westron name for this letter is Agha.[3]

Etymology

The word derives from the Primitive Quendian root UNUK.[4]
