I have knowledge of your war-related articles for a while now and they are simply great. Congrats for you work! Thank you also for reminding me to vote for the FA nominations. All the best ! ~~ Þelma 12:59, 28 June 2008 (EDT)

Thanks for your kind words. That's me-- all war all the time.--Theoden1 15:59, 3 July 2008 (EDT)

Aldarion and Erendis: The Mariner's Wife[edit]

Morning! :) Thank you so much for the spelling corrections done to the article "Aldarion and Erendis: The Mariner's Wife". They were most useful. As for the rewords, I changed most of them back and I hope you'll forgive me for that. The reason I did so was that I try not to have the same word repeated too much at one point in the text, nor explain what is easily understood from a previous sentence. That's the manner in which I wrote the article's text (or at least tried :) ). But please, if you think those rewords are absolutely necessary, we can further talk about that. Have a good day ! :) ~~ Þelma 01:55, 7 July 2008 (EDT)

The rewords are mostly acceptable, but you should check the text of Unfinished Tales. You will see that the Council postponed the abdication for most of a year, so the abdication was not immediate. That's why I worded it that way. I have done some writing professionally, so I understand the need to vary words. Some of those were just style differences.--Theoden1 13:10, 7 July 2008 (EDT)
Oh, believe me, the UT text is very fresh in my mind. I am (re)reading the entire book again so I can complete the missing UT articles on TG. So it is not a case of "you should check". The abdication was delayed only until Erukyermë came, that is right in the begining of spring. Considering it was late autumn when Aldarion came back from his voyage, it is a small period of time until he became king (late autumn - begining of spring), so not a year. But I accept your observation. I will write that it was declared it in the "Synopsis" part of the article and mention him becoming king only in "Notes". ~~ Þelma 15:52, 7 July 2008 (EDT)

I was reading Wikipedia, and I noticed most of their articles also have sections "Objectives". Would inclusion of the objectives be handy? It would add some extra text, and some introduction to the actual battle. -- Ederchil 04:59, 8 July 2008 (EDT)

I looked as well, at accounts of several Middle Earth battles, and I don't see anything about objectives. Are you referring to real battles or some other fictional universe? Our general format, with infoboxes, is similar.--Theoden1 09:20, 8 July 2008 (EDT)
Actual battles. It would really help as subsections of the "prelude" (or whatever it is called) section.
Oh, and I agree on the time Hyar takes to delete stuff. I found out asking him on the chat has more use than putting a delete template in. -- Ederchil 09:24, 8 July 2008 (EDT)

Hi! As you have seen, I'm expanding the Ecthelion article. I've comed across a point where I could use your war experience, if you feel like sharing it , of course. It was written (not by me) in the top section of the article that "He led a wing of Gondolin's forces during the Nirnaeth Arnoediad". Though it would seem reasonable, him being one of Turgon's lords, I can't find this information anywhere in the books...Can you please tell me if it is accurate and if so, where does it appear ? I need to reference it. Thank you in advance for your help. ~~ Þelma 15:14, 15 July 2008 (EDT)

I added the expansion tag for you, since I saw the article was in process. If you look in Silmarillion, in the Fifth Battle chapter, it mentions that Ecthelion and Glorfindel guarded the flanks of Turgon's retreating army after the battle was lost. It would be reasonable to cite it, and to put in a link to the Nirnaeth battle. By the way, how do you pronounce your name, and what is the letter it begins with? Is it Icelandic or Norwegian or something?--Theoden1 16:27, 15 July 2008 (EDT)
Thank you for your answer.:) I modified the article to include the Nirnaeth reference. " Þelma " is Quenya for "fixed idea, will". It is also a sign of ...loyalty to Fëanor (here we go back to your least favorite elf :]] ). In the Vanyarin Quenya, some words began with "Þ" , like, for instance, his mother's name was Þerinde, but we now know her as Serinde, because the Noldor changed the "Þ" into an "S". They had this habbit of changing more complicated (groups of) letters into simpler ones. :)) Basically, the two letters are pronounced almost the same way, but "Þ" has the tip of the tongue right behind the upper teeth and not behind the lower set of teeth (as you'd have it when pronouncing a normal "S"). Fëanor opposed this change in the chapter "The Shibboleth of Fëanor" (normally, who would like to have his mother's name changed for comfort of pronounciation?). So this is the history of my name. :) ~~ Þelma 17:42, 15 July 2008 (EDT)

Use of Copyrighted Images[edit]

Hi Theoden1. I have just found you have uploaded a picture of Fingolfin without the required permission of the artist. I am the artist and you have never contacted me regarding this image or any other. Furthermore, your comment states the picture is from a ME Card-game and we both know this is not the case. Do you think this is the right way to do things? Could you please tell me what happened?? Breogán 11:34, 17 July 2008 (EDT)

I am aware that you raised issues about you artwork in the past, and would never intentionally put up one of your images. I have uploaded a lot of ME card images, and I may have just made a mistake. I looked, and I don't see a pic of Fingolfin I uploaded. I did upload a pic of Fingon, that wasn't yours. So please id your pic by name.--Theoden1 13:47, 17 July 2008 (EDT)
See the image recently deleted: Image:FingolfinEquestrianportraitBlackBackgroundConceptArtworkThumb.jpg --Hyarion 13:59, 17 July 2008 (EDT)
I can't see it-- it's gone. I didn't see it in my contributions list, so I don't acknowledge I had anything to do with it.--Theoden1 14:07, 17 July 2008 (EDT)
Sorry, I forgot regular users can't view the deleted history: "15:38, 7 July 2008 . . Theoden1 (Pic from ME game card. Category:Images of Fingolfin Category:Images of the First Age)" I'm assuming you kept the original name (no harm in shortening it :)) so this is the most likely source. No worries, just remember to contact the artist first, at the very least include a link to the source if the license is fair use. --Hyarion 14:11, 17 July 2008 (EDT)

Theoden1, I have never claimed you intentionally put up one of my images after I raised the issue of my artwork, what I said (see above) is that I was never contacted about this image, neither was I requested permission to use it here (Hyarion contacted me to use other images of mine, the problem then was different). Also, that image of Fingolfin is not part of a ME Card game, but a concept for a computer game. So, if you were the one who uploaded the picture and you mention you have uploaded a lot of ME card game images, I would like to know the source of these images as I would like to check if someone is making use of artwork intended for another project and that does not belong to them. Thanks. Breogán 15:46, 17 July 2008 (EDT)

Sack of Doriath vs The Second Kinslaying[edit]

First of all, thank you for the FA queue nomination on the Númenóreans article. It is much appreciated. I wanted to talk to you about the Second Kinslaying article which is now named as the Second Kinslaying...which is not accurate, since the Sons of Fëanor did not plunder the place, that was the job of the Dwarves, done before the Sons even got to Menegroth. There are several opinions (on the Talk page of the article) in favor of separating the two articles...and some since 2006. And I was thinking maybe it's time to do something about it. Now, why I wanted to talk to you is because if they were to be separated, the Second Kinslaying, would be a conflict of the First Age and that is your domain...and I don't feel like stepping on that. I can do the Sacking article, but the other one would have to be created ? What do you think about it? ~~ Þelma 14:25, 29 July 2008 (EDT)

I've been watching this war from a distance, since I'm involved in enough battles already-- First Age, mostly. In my learned opinion, I would consider them separate events, but closely related. I think two articles are called for, but not necessarily on the basis of equality. One way to do it would be to include Second Kinslaying as part of the Sack of Doriath. The whole affair is a little dicey because it is not considered one of the Battles of Beleriand, but as a minor battle between the Nirnaeth Arnoediad and the War of Wrath. This struggle only rates a one battle status, not a war with two battles.--Theoden1 15:50, 29 July 2008 (EDT)

Arnor etymology[edit]

I don't know exactly what linguistic sources you have at your disposal, but if you want me too, I can write you a good "Etymologies" section (kinda like Gondor#Etymology). For one, the "probably" statement in the intro is wholly inaccurate: it's certain. -- Ederchil 16:05, 1 August 2008 (EDT)

This is my weakest point, so I would very much appreciate it.--Theoden1 20:29, 1 August 2008 (EDT)

Theoden, I'm flattered. I must say I have been playing Standards Police (a bit too strict sometimes) in Hyar's absence. I actually wanted to nominate you back, but I don't know whether you made the 6 month requirement. -- Ederchil 02:52, 6 August 2008 (EDT)

Thank you for that thought, but we can do one at a time. I can wait till the late fall. I joined this site in June 2007, though I have been highly active since last April. Let's get you through the process first. There are several matters on the Main Page that require attention, like the News, Calendar, even Featured Gatekeeper, and I hope you'll get those moving. I have tried to push the Featured Article/Quote concept down the road, but more is needed. BTW, Arnor is still waiting for some Etymology help.--Theoden1 06:21, 6 August 2008 (EDT)
Just to let everyone know, the news on the Main page is under construction because there's a problem with the actual software - so only Hyarion can fix it.-- KingAragorn  talk  contribs  edits  email  06:52, 6 August 2008 (EDT)
June? Seems way longer. Anyway, etymology coming up, today or tomorrow. -- Ederchil 07:12, 6 August 2008 (EDT)
Thanks-- I included your Etymology in the Arnor article, which is nearly complete.--Theoden1 17:42, 9 August 2008 (EDT)

Hi Theoden1! I just wanted to draw your attention to here. We are currently discussing the idea of a weekly site meeting. Thanks!-- KingAragorn  talk  contribs  edits  email  18:10, 7 August 2008 (EDT)

Great Game[edit]

Hi theoden, this is a great game: Create a nation and join my region "The Real Middle Earth" invite your friends and if you need help, I'm here. Also, how do you get those things on your page that say like "This user believe the entwives are lost" or "has advanced lore"?

Hi there. I did create a nation, Techvarinia, that I move to your region. But it looks like people are leaving for a different region, Arnor. In other matters, those boxes are user infoboxes. You can see how they are made by opening a user page for editing (but don't actually change anything).-- Theoden1  talk  contribs  edits  14:33, 15 November 2008 (UTC)
