Caras Gaer was "a strange shrine"[1] that acted as the Dark Wizard's stronghold in western Rhûn in the late Second Age. Caras Gaer was invented for The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power by Amazon Studios. It appeared in the second season of the series.
History
Caras Gaer served as the staging ground for the Dark Wizard's schemes in Middle-earth. From here he ordered the Gaudrim and Mystics to intercept and capture The Stranger.
Etymology
Caras Gaer consists of the Sindarin words caras ("a fort or dwelling surrounded by bulwarks")[2] and gaer ("awful, fearful").[3]
