First Age 402 (abbreviated to F.A. 402) is the 402nd year of the Sun of the First Age of Middle-earth.
Notable events in this year include:
- Orcs attempt to pierce the Pass of Aglon, but they are defeated by Maedhros and Maglor, who are aided by the sons of Finarfin and Edain of the House of Bëor.[note 1][1]
Notes
- ↑ As written, this annal also contains "and Bëor was with them, the first of Men to draw sword in behalf of the Eldar", but was in a version where the House of Bëor entered Beleriand in the year 400, and the House of Haleth and House of Hador didn't enter until 420. It was not emended to account for the coming of Men much earlier, in 310, and Bëor's death in 355. In the revised genealogy, living members of the House of Bëor at this time included their chieftain, the elderly Boron (age 87), and future chieftains Boromir (age 64), and Bregor (age 43).
