page heading?
As far as I could find, the quest is named only as "The Quest of Mount Doom" (Elrond, in the chapter "The Ring Goes South"). While it might be logical to also name this the "Quest of the Ring," as it seems to be identified by many fans, nowhere does this page quote either JRR or Christopher Tolkien or suggest why the page uses this heading. Shouldn't there be an explanation somewhere? Ed8r (talk) 16:40, 19 May 2024 (UTC)
- I agree. I used our Chrome extension to lookup both phrases on Search Tolkien and this supports your conclusion. I think it makes sense to move the article to the phrase used in the books. We'll just want to also make sure we also update any articles that link to this phrase. Hyarion (talk) 17:03, 19 May 2024 (UTC)
- The term Quest of the Ring appears in Letter 183 of The Letters of J.R.R. Tolkien: Revised and Extended Edition. The term Quest of the Ring-bearer appears in the synopsis of The Two Towers and The Return of the King. Despite this, however, I agree that the should be moved to the Quest of Mount Doom since The Lord of the Rings takes mors precedence than Tolkien's letters.Dour1234 (talk) 18:39, 19 May 2024 (UTC)
- Ah . . .*that's* where it's from. Well, I don't think LoTR is necessary more canon than Tolkien's Letters. As long as the page explains where it's from?? Ed8r (talk) 18:45, 19 May 2024 (UTC)
- Tolkien's letters were published adter his lifetime, but the synopsis at the beginning of the second and third book contain the term that is used the most. Despite this, I still think the term in the narrative itself (said by a character) is more notable.Dour1234 (talk) 18:48, 19 May 2024 (UTC)
- I think the page now clarifies all the different names for this quest and their sources. Thank you. Ed8r (talk) 14:58, 20 May 2024 (UTC)

- "Quest of the Ring" is way more clear and is in relation with the Quest for the Silmaril. LorenzoCB (talk) 06:16, 20 May 2024 (UTC)
- I agree that it is in relation to the Quest for the Silmaril page, but Quest of Mount Doom is in relation to the Quest of Erebor page. We could leave the page how it is with Quest of the Ring or move it to Quest of Mount Doom. I vote for the latter name since it is found in the narrative of The Lord of the Rings. What does everyone else think, particularly Akhorahil?Dour1234 (talk) 01:40, 21 May 2024 (UTC)
