Withered Dale
The Withered Dale was the name of the valley where Tevildo encountered Huan according to the early version of the legendarium in The Book of Lost Tales.[1]
History[edit | edit source]
The Withered Dale was a wide valley that was shaped "like a bowl among the rocks". Nothing grew there except for withered grass and some low bushes with only a few leaves.[2]:48 The valley lay slightly less than a mile westwards of the halls of Tevildo.[2]:15-6 Tinúviel told Tevildo of Huan lying injured in the woods nearby. Tevildo's fell for Tinúviel's ruse and he followed her with two of his thanes, one of which was Oikeroi.[2]:41-5 It was here where Tevildo had encountered Huan, who was pretending to be wounded, lying in a bank of fern. Huan killed Oikeroi, the other thane fled, and Tevildo himself fled up a tall and smooth tree near the valley.[2]:27-8
