Gormadoc "Deepdelver" Brandybuck was a Hobbit of the Shire.

History

Gormadoc was named Deepdelver in his lifetime. He married Malva Headstrong, and had three children: Madoc, Sadoc and Marroc.[1]

It is possible that during his office he enlarged Brandy Hall.[2]

Etymology

The meaning of the name Gormadoc is unknown. J.R.R. Tolkien noted that the names of the Bucklanders had a vaguely Celtic style.[3]

Jim Allan suggests that it contains the element gor, which means "over" in Welsh as a prefix to Madoc,[4] the first name of Gormadoc Brandybuck's son.
