Virgin Mary

From Tolkien Gateway
Madonna statue at the Birmingham Oratory, where Tolkien attended mass during his childhood

The Virgin Mary is a key figure in Christianity. As a devout Roman Catholic, Tolkien had a special devotion towards her, to the point of stating that all his "perception of beauty both in majesty and simplicity" was founded upon her.[1] Her inspiration in Tolkien's work is reflected by poems, translations of prayers, and character development.
