Arahad I (T.A. 2365[1] - 2523,[2] died aged 158) was the son of Araglas and seventh Chieftain of the Dúnedain.

History[edit | edit source]

He followed his father, in Chieftainship, when Araglas died in 2455.

His rule coincided with the end of the Watchful Peace, when Sauron returned to Dol Guldur with increased strength.[3] Also during his rule, orcs began to increase and multiply in the Misty Mountains; it was then when they revealed themselves, waylaying Celebrían and her escort.[4]

Arahad died in 2523, after having ruled for sixty-eight years, and was followed by his son, Aragost.[2]

Etymology[edit | edit source]

Arahad is a Sindarin name. Its meaning is not glossed. Paul Strack suggests it is a compound of the prefix ar(a)- ("noble", "royal", "high") and the lenited form had of sad ("place", "spot").[5]
