Chariots were used by Easterlings of the Third Age for transportation and for war.[1]

History

During the invasion of the Wainriders the chieftains of the Wainriders fought in chariots.[2]

In T.A. 1944 in the battle known as the Disaster of the Morannon the vanguard of the Wainriders and their allies from Khand, which consisted of war-chariots of the Wainriders and a force of cavalry, surprised the main force of Gondor, which was led by King Ondoher. The enemy vanguard crashed into the disordered line of the main force of Gondor, killed King Ondoher and his son Artamir with almost all of the king's Guard, and pushed the Gondorian soldiers back, dispersing and pursuing many of them to the west into the Dead Marshes.[1]

Later in the Third Age, on 26 February T.A. 3019,[3] Frodo Baggins had a vision of the chariots of chieftains coming from the East when he sat on the Seat of Seeing on Amon Hen, the Hill of the Eye.[4] It is unknown whether these chariots were used in battle or for transportation.
