- 1944 – J.R.R. Tolkien receives a letter from 12 year old John Barrow from West town, Pennsylvania. The boy has already read The Hobbit eleven times, and his use of the term "Gee Whiz" delights Tolkien.
- 1952 - Tolkien writes Letter 135.
- 1955 - Tolkien writes Letter 173.
- 1964 - The third episode of the Princess-serialization of The Hobbit is published.
- 1997 - Voice actor Don Messick dies.
- 2003 - RingCon III in Tacoma, Washington.
- 2007 - The Lord of the Rings Online: Shadows of Angmar, "Prisoner of the Free Peoples" is released in North America.
- 2010 - New features are added to the 1994 online game The Two Towers MUD, including a Facebook application.
- 2017 - Faith Faulconbridge dies
