The Prancing Pony Podcast (PPP) is an online podcast that began 21 February 2016 by Alan Sisto and Shawn E. Marchese. Notable guests have included Andrew Higgins, Billy Boyd, Brian Sibley, Carl Hostetter, Cliff Broadway, Corey Olsen, Dave Brons, Dimitra Fimi, Dominic Monaghan, Greg Hildebrandt, (Jeremy Edmonds, Andrew Higgins, and Chad High of Tolkien Collectors Guide), John Garth, John Howe, Luke Shelton, Michael Drout, Shaun Gunner, Simon Tolkien, Simonetta Carr, Sørina Higgins, Ted Nasmith, Tom Shippey, Verlyn Flieger, Wayne Hammond and Christina Scull.[1]

The Prancing Pony Podcast won the Tolkien Society Award for Best Online Content twice, in 2020 and 2022.[2]

We cover a few pages of each chapter in each episode: reading our favorite passages, discussing themes, savoring Tolkien's language, and highlighting connections across the vast landscape of the mythology of Middle-earth. But it's less an academic lecture and more a nerdy hangout! We combine our in-depth study with a healthy dose of self-effacing humor, pop culture references, and bad puns. It's our goal to make even Tolkien's deepest works accessible to anyone; and we do this by being the sort of guys you'd want to hang out at a pub and talk Tolkien with.[1]

Seasons[edit | edit source]

Moots[edit | edit source]

In May 2021, PPP hosts and their team organized a fully online conference, Prancing Pony Podcast Moot.

In October 2022, the PPP hosted a hybrid moot, online and in-person at Marquette University to coincide with William M. Fliss and Sarah Schaefer's "J.R.R. Tolkien: The Art of the Manuscript" exhibit.

New co-hosts[edit | edit source]

In August 2022 Shawn E. Marchese announced that he would step away from being the permanent co-host of the PPP. Alan Sisto announced the following guest hosts for Season 7 (each for several episodes):

The Rings of Power Wrap-up[edit | edit source]

On 11 February 2022 the PPP launched The Rings of Power Wrap-up, a new show covering the Amazon Prime television series, The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power.

Alan Sisto and Shawn E. Marchese produced fifteen preparatory episodes. Once the series began, James Tauber and Sara Brown replaced Shawn E. Marchese as Alan Sisto's co-hosts.
