Modern English is the name of the standardized form of the English language that is in use in the world today.

Modern English began its evolution from Middle English around the Great Vowel Shift that took place in England between the late fifteenth century and the eighteenth century. During this evolution, the first forms of Modern English tend to be referred to as Early Modern English, or Shakespearean English. As the language became standardised in the mid-to-late eighteenth century, Modern English was born.
J.R.R. Tolkien's writings related to Middle-earth were said to be translated from Westron into Modern English.
