The Lady of the Sun[1] was a character that exists within the folk-tales of the Shire-hobbits,[4] the Númenóreans,[1] and Gondorians.[2]
History
The Lady of the Sun[1] in Middle-earth folklore may have her origins in the legend of Arien the Maia.
The Númenóreans believed that The Lady of the Sun, like Nîlû, was a guardian spirit and named her Ûrî.[1]
According to Middle-earth folklore, The Lady of the Sun[1] had fiery eyes. After the Man in the Moon's misadventure on Arda in Bilbo Baggins's[2] song The Man in the Moon Stayed Up Too Late, The Lady of the Sun[1] appeared surprised that no one was awake despite it being daytime.[3]
In The Man in the Moon Came Down Too Soon, a song derived from Gondorian lore,[2] it is said that the Man in the Moon "longed for Fire" in his heart, possibly implying that he longed for The Lady of the Sun[1].[5]
Etymology
The Adûnaic name Ûrî is given as the female personification of ûre ("the Sun"), referring to its guardian spirit.[1]
