Thrarin[1][2] was a representative of the dwarves of Erebor at the Council of Elrond.
Thrarin is an original creation for The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring film.
History
Thrarin was a dwarf of the Third Age who lived in Erebor. He was a smith by trade, though he was known to take up his axe to fight when the need arose. When Elrond, the Lord of Rivendell, invited representatives of factions of the Free peoples of Middle-earth to a Council which aimed to answer the growing threat of Mordor, the King under the Mountain Dáin Ironfoot sent multiple dwarven emissaries to attend. Thrarin, Gimli and Farin travelled to Rivendell as council attendees, accompanied by Glóin and Grimir.
Thrarin sat between Thorin Stonehelm and Gimli during the council. He brought troubling news from the East to the rest of the council. When Gimli attempted to destroy the One Ring with his axe, it shattered and he was thrown onto the floor. Thrarin and Farin helped Gimli up.
The Council erupted into a furious bout of yelling as they disagreed on what should be done with the Ring. Thrarin got up and began yelling at Legolas and the Elves. The argument raged on until Frodo Baggins, the Shire-hobbit who brought the Ring to Rivendell, volunteered to take the Ring to Mordor and destroy it. Thrarin watched as eight others, including Gimli, offered to join Frodo on his quest. He sat back down and watched Lord Elrond dub Frodo and his eight companions "The Fellowship of the Ring".
