Captain of the King's Ships[1][2] or simply Captain of Ships[3] was a title that was held by Vëantur during the reign of the King of Númenor Tar-Elendil.[1][2][3]
Vëantur was the first Númenórean to achieve the sea-voyage back to Middle-earth on his ship Entulessë (the Quenya word for "return")[1] in S.A. 600[4] during the reign of Tar-Elendil[5]. His grandson Tar-Aldarion founded the Guild of Venturers in Númenor and became known as the Great Captain.[2]
