Orodreth (Third Age 2576[1]2685,[2] aged 109 years) was the sixteenth Ruling Steward of Gondor.

History

Orodreth was the son of Belecthor I. As many of the Ruling Stewards were named after legendary figures of the First Age[3] Orodreth was named after the Elf-lord of Nargothrond.

Upon the death of his father in T.A. 2655, he succeeded him as the Ruling Steward. He ruled during an apparently peaceful and uneventful period for he Kingdom. He had one son, Ecthelion, who succeeded him.

Etymology

For the meaning of his name refer to Orodreth - Etymology. It is possible that Orodreth was named after the Noldo King of Nargothrond of the First Age.[4]
