Húrin I (Third Age 2124[2]2244,[3] aged 120 years) was the fifth Ruling Steward of Gondor[4].

History

Húrin became the fifth Ruling Steward at the death of his father, Steward Belegorn in T.A. 2204.[5]

Húrin's rule was a quiet time for Gondor during the Watchful Peace,[6] when Sauron was in the East and the Nazgûl stayed quiet in Minas Morgul[7].

Húrin ruled as Steward for forty years,[3] and was succeeded by his son, Túrin I.[8].

Etymology

For the meaning of his name refer to Húrin of Emyn Arnen - Etymology. Húrin I was probably named after Húrin Thalion, the last Lord of Dor-lómin and one of the great heroes of the Edain in the First Age of the House of Hador, from which the Kings of Gondor were descended on the male side.[9][10]
